Meet Ms. Tina, a teacher at Hornalan Elementary School in the Philippines. Born and raised in Hornalan, Ms. Tina attended the very same elementary school where she has now taught for seven years. Her deep connection to the community gives her a firsthand understanding of the challenges her students and their families face each day.
Located in a remote mountainous farming community, Hornalan is home to families who rely heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods. With limited incomes, many parents struggle to provide their children with daily meals or school allowances, leaving some students to arrive at school hungry.
Through Thrive’s daily school meal program, students at Hornalan Elementary School can receive nutritious meals, helping ease the financial burden on families while encouraging children to attend school regularly and focus on their education.
From Ms. Tina: “For the parents, it lightens their load. They don’t have to think about it, and it even lessens their daily expenses. It’s such a huge help for our students.”
For teachers like Ms. Tina, knowing her students have access to nutritious food means they can come to school ready to learn, even when their families cannot provide a meal that morning.
