“I have been like this since birth. I have never seen any of my babies’ faces.”
Meet Ruwaida and her mother, Mst. Jusna Khatun, from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Born blind, Jusna has never seen her children’s faces, but that hasn’t stopped her from caring for them each day. From waking Ruwaida up in the morning to helping her get ready for school, Jusna’s days revolve around providing for her children and giving them the best life she can.
For families in Ruwaida’s community, where average household incomes are less than $2 a day, putting food on the table can be a daily challenge. Despite her mother’s dedication, Ruwaida sometimes arrives at school hungry, making it difficult to focus on her education.
From Ruwaida: “When I go to school on an empty stomach, my stomach growls for food.”
Through Thrive’s daily school meal program, Ruwaida receives nutritious foods like eggs and nuts, helping provide the nourishment she needs to learn, grow, and enjoy her childhood. For Jusna, knowing her daughter has access to healthy food at school means one less worry as she works to care for her family.
From Ruwaida: “I love eating eggs. Today, I finished all the nuts. Thank you Thrive.”
A mother’s love is powerful, but no mother should have to face the worry of whether her child will have enough to eat. Your generosity helps ease that burden for mothers like Jusna while giving children like Ruwaida the nourishment they need to pursue their dreams.
Thank you for helping families like Ruwaida and Jusna’s build healthier, brighter futures.
