“I shell sea urchins because we don’t have money. That way, I help my grandmother so we can buy rice.”
For 12-year-old Chloe Jane, the day begins long before the sun rises. At 4 a.m., she wakes up, prepares for the day, and gets ready for school on the remote island of Dawahon in the Philippines. But when classes end, her responsibilities are far from over.
Chloe lives with her grandmother while her mother works in Manila. Since the age of 10, she has spent her afternoons along the seashore cleaning and shelling sea urchins, earning just 10 to 25 pesos (18 to 44 cents) per bottle. Every peso helps her grandmother put rice on the table.
Despite the demands of daily life, Chloe remains dedicated to her education. For the past two years, Thrive has been part of her school day, providing nutritious meals that help keep her healthy and strong. For children like Chloe, having a reliable meal at school means one less worry in a life already filled with responsibilities.
From Chloe: “Thank you to Thrive because they give us nutritious food. Because of Thrive, our bodies are strong.”
Behind every meal is a child with a story, a family doing their best, and a future full of possibilities. For Chloe, your generosity means she can spend less of her day worrying about hunger and more of it focusing on her education and the things that matter most.
Thank you for being part of Chloe’s story and helping children like her build a brighter future.
